Traffic without enquiries is the most frustrating position to be in, because it feels like you are close. Usually you are. The traffic is the hard part and you already have it.

Here are the causes we find most often, in rough order of how much damage they do.

1. The visitor cannot tell what you do in three seconds

If your headline is "Welcome to our website" or "Excellence in everything we do", you have spent your most valuable asset on nothing. The first line should say what you do, for whom, and where.

2. There is no obvious next step

Count the ways to contact you above the fold. If the answer is zero, that is the whole problem. One primary action, repeated down the page, beats five competing buttons.

3. You are asking for too much too early

A ten-field form with "how did you hear about us" and a required company VAT number is a wall. Name, contact, and one sentence about the job. You can ask the rest on the phone.

4. No pricing signal at all

Most people will not enquire if they fear being embarrassed by the price. You do not need a full price list. "Projects from £350" removes the fear for the people you want and filters out the ones you do not.

5. Nothing that proves you are real

No photos of actual work, no names, no reviews, no location. Anonymous sites do not get enquiries. Two real testimonials with a first name and a town beat a wall of stock badges.

6. It is slow on a phone

If your hero image is a 4MB PNG, a third of your mobile visitors leave before they see it. They do not report this. They just vanish, and your analytics call it a bounce.

7. The form is broken and you do not know

This happens more than you would believe. Forms silently failing, going to an old inbox, or landing in spam. Test yours today from a phone on mobile data.

8. You are ranking for the wrong intent

If your traffic is people searching "how to fix X yourself", they were never going to hire you. Check which pages the traffic lands on. Informational traffic converts at a fraction of commercial traffic, and that is normal.

9. There is no reason to act now

"Get in touch" is not a reason. "Free demo before you pay", "next availability in three weeks", "free 15-minute review of your current site" — a specific, low-risk offer converts a browser into an enquiry.

Where to start

Fix in this order: mobile speed, headline clarity, one obvious call to action, then add a price signal and two pieces of proof. In our experience that sequence typically does more for enquiry volume than doubling traffic.
